For those who haven’t seen its prequels, here’s some context for you. For the rest, you might want to skip to the VERY LAST heading.
Where it all started:
15 years before the events of this movie, a virus, which was meant to cure brain-related diseases, was being extensively tested upon apes. One day, one such experiment went horribly wrong, and the captured chimps, who had become really smart due to constant experimentations, waged an all-out war against their captors in the city.
The battle also resulted in the total destruction of the laboratory where the drug-tests were happening. This also led to the virus, later termed as the Simian Flu, making mankind nearly extinct.

The Leader Of The Rebels:
Out of these revolting primates, there emerged a leader, Caesar (Played by Andy Serkis), who had somehow genetically inherited the positive effects of the medicine, and also was well aware of the compassion and cruelty that humans were capable of.

What Happens Next:
The war later transported to a famous bridge of the city, which was ultimately won by the apes. But, the apes couldn’t live in the city
anymore, as they were sure that surviving would be impossible. So, Caesar and his tribe relocated themselves into the woods, but they stayed vigilant, should the last of mankind come hunting for them.
Since then, the basic storyline of the trilogy has revolved around the hassles of the two species coexisting. Basically, the Us Versus Them
scenario.

The story of this film:
Coming back to War For The Planet Of The Apes, the final chapter of the trilogy. Caesar and the troops realise that even the forest is no longer a safe place for them, as the soldiers of a ruthless militia led by a man who calls himself The Colonel (Woody Harrelson) keep frequently infiltrating the place. The ape troops find a safer place to inhabit, for which they will have to spend long hours walking the desert. Just a few moments before their departure, the militia, this time led by The Colonel, pay the apes a visit.
This, obviously, does not go down well. Caesar ends up facing an unimaginable loss post the encounter. A few hours later, the ape tribes leaves for their safe haven, but not Caesar, who, along with a few trusted apes from his group, leaves to avenge his loss from The Colonel. The search ends when Caesar finds out that the whole of this tribe has been captured by The Colonel, who has some sinister plans for them.
The ACTUAL Review:
The trilogy, in itself, deserves standing applause for the fact that they have delivered films which constantly surpasses the other, a
rare quality nowadays.Back to the film, although the title of the film suggests that you are going in for some heavy action sequences, you will hardly find any of them. Instead, it’s a character drama, which surprisingly works very well for the film.
In this film, Andy’s Caesar receives an intimidating entry and greater prominence and Andy makes sure that Caesar will be a protagonist to remember. He will be seen going through a much greater emotional turmoil, and what comes out of them is a pleasant delight.
For the movie buffs, you will find many similarities from the past, which, also, I didn’t mind one bit. There are movies that try to use what worked in the past and call a career suicide for them, and then there is War For The Planet Of The Apes.
The film, just like its prequels, keeps into place the arrogance that humans have given that they are, over the course of their lives, made to believe that they are the smartest beings that have ever existed and there will be no one surpassing them. It also shows that man will die due to his own doings. The ending of this series couldn’t have been better.
Although it concludes on a bleak and sombre tone, Caesar, and you will too, will feel that he has served his purpose and has finally taken asylum a much better place.
Overall, this film is a MUST WATCH! even if you were not all that optimistic about the films' concept, this instalment is something you should not miss out on!
